The premier and much celebrated festival of Bengalis is Durga Puja or Saradia Durgotsav as it is commonly known. This year it commenced from Saturday, 1 st October, 2022 with Maha Sosti. On this auspicious occasion Rabindra Bharati Society, Jorasako Thakurbari, in collaboration with Bharat Sevashram Shangha, Ganga Sagar Branch, took it upon themselves to distribute saries to the village folks there. The Ashram Sangh Principal, Nimai Maharaj appealed to Rabindra Bharati Society for the same and the Society instantly took up the challenge. Few Executive Committee and General Members took the arduous journey from Kolkata to Ganga Sagar to distribute 170 saries to the not so privileged village women there, irrespective of caste, creed or religion, during the inauguration of the Ashram’s Durga Puja. From the Society’s side was present its General Secretary, Sri Siddhartha Mukherjee, Assistant Secretary, Sri Ranjit Kumar Nayak, Members Abdus Sukur Khan and Somnath Bhadra. Female members comprised of Executive Committee Member Smt. Rumela Mukherjee, Members – Smt. Supriya Chakrabarty, Smt. Pratima Saha, Smt. Jayashree Dey, Smt. Bijoya Nayak and Smt. Kakoli Das. Under the able leadership of Nimai Maharaj the programme went off very smoothly. In his short speech Maharaj welcomed the noble gesture of Rabindra Bharati Society for taking this honourable initiative and expressed his gratitude towards the same. General Secretary of the Society, Sri Siddhartha Mukherjee in his oration first paid his homage to the Sangh Guru and appreciated their efforts in various fields. He then thanked Maharaj for the unhindered programme and also thanked all members who were present or absent for their contribution towards making this mission a grand success. Receiving a new sari at the onset of the pujas brought a smile and cheer to all the recipients and all the women present thanked Maharaj and Rabindra Bharati Society in unison towards this great endeavour. Society also in turn is extremely happy to take a step in doing this for the rural under privileged women folk of Ganga Sagar as their Corporate Social Responsibility. It left an indelible mark to the members who attended the programme.
